Bristol Law School (BLS) has always stood for high quality legal education. Teaching is at the heart of what we do. You will find a depth and breadth in our taught Master of Laws (LLM) degrees here at Bristol Law School almost unparalleled in the United Kingdom. You can choose to study one of ten taught masters courses that not only cover a diverse range of challenging but interesting legal disciplines, but also cater for the individual. Now in its tenth year the Masters programme has recently been expanded to include two exciting new degrees - Environmental Law and Sustainable Development and International Banking and Finance.*
Being a Masters student at BLS doesn’t mean you’ll just enjoy great teaching, important though that is. You will also enjoy the benefits of being a law student at a law school investing for the future. That investment can be seen in our fantastic law library - the heart of any truly great law school - with the latest edition of treatises and books, law reports from around the globe and all the major legal databases at our students’ fingertips. On the BLS LLM you can study with a large degree of flexibility. And for us our Masters students are an important part of the law school community. To reflect this we have invested in a dedicated "base room" for their exclusive use.
At Bristol Law School we recognise that providing the best tuition rests on our staff. We have a strong teaching team with real passion for their subjects. Unlike other institutions we do not make heavy use of PhD students or temporary staff; because we want our students to experience the best tuition possible you will generally be taught by full-time members of staff.
Studying for an LLM provides an ideal opportunity to develop a specialism that might be attractive to employers, both in the legal world and beyond. Moreover, in an age when law increasingly has a transnational nature (EU, ECHR, WTO, international criminal justice etc.) our courses are directed to providing you with that knowledge.**
Study for your Masters at Bristol Law School and change not only the way you view the world, but also how the world views you!
** All our taught LLM degrees are all accredited with the Law Society of England and Wales for CPD points.
Our LLM begins with an intensive week long induction. Thereafter our option classes are small offering intensive tuition.

It is no coincidence that these Awards overlap with the areas of principal research interest in the School. The interplay between teaching and research is dynamic - the School has a thriving research culture and many members of staff who teach on the LLM Awards actively publish in leading academic law journals. Coupled with the School's ?excellent? rating for its teaching delivery that it obtained from the Quality Assurance Agency in the UK, this means that students will participate in carefully planned, lively and highly informative seminars.
Our degree are delivered through fortnightly seminars of three hours duration. Learning is student-centred and therefore considerable self-directed study is required outside of the formal contact hours.
Assessment is in the form of coursework and oral presentations for the six taught modules, and by extended dissertation. There are no final examinations.
